Lesbian, Gay and Bi mental health issues span much of the same territory of mental health issues for the general public, but identities and relationships are so much harder to navigate. Identities formation is fraught with hurdles and roadblocks and people sure love to tell us who we are and who we aren’t. This can create such an internal sense of dissonance and shame. When we can find our love of self, find our true authentic being and self-expression, then we can stand tall and be proud. Pride…so important to our community. Relationships are hard too. We figure out who we are in relationship with others. And we unfold more and grow, which also causes us some pain, just like growing pains in our primary years. Relationships can also be scary and we have to navigate how much intimacy is right for us. Some want more, some want less. The more intimacy we have, the more our internal world is challenged to let go. But, intimacy is beautiful and worth striving for.
I am happy to help work through the many facets of LGB support and development. There are many issues that are common to our community and I’m happy to help navigate the challenges, such as:
- Relationship issues / building intimacy
- Family & Parenting
- Navigating relationship breakups
- Developing healthy coping mechanisms and releasing addictions
- Developing a sexual identity and authentic sense of self
- Coming out issues, shame and sexual exploration
- Multicultural issues and interracial partnerships
- Re-thinking religion and spirituality
- Ageism and aging
- Becoming active in the community
